Myanmar Cyclone Relief Mission Updated News

May 27, 2008

Due to the public who contributed their donation and effort made by committee members for Myanmar Cyclone Relief effort, we managed to collect over S$ 133,000.00 and other various relief materials such as food and clothing so far.

We have already transferred S$75,000.00 to various NGOs to carry out relief operations in cyclone-hit regions of Myanmar. In terms of medicines and other relief materials, we have bought 300,000 water purification tablets and S$10,000.00 worth of various medicines and sent them to Myanmar.

Other aid materials (more than 2 containers load) such as first aid medicines, food stuff and clothing have been sent out to Myanmar and are being distributed to those who are in dire need.

The freight charges of all the relief items have been waived by Myanmar Air Ways International and Myanmar Five Stars Shipping Line.

Donation funds and materials sent to Cyclone hit areas in Myanmar

May 18,2008

300,000 water purification tablets were sent to two private organizations which are caring out relief effort at Kungyangon, Phyarpon, Kyaiklat area and Mawlamyinegyun, Labutta, Myaung Mya area respectively.

Relief materials like food supplies, clothing, blankets, etc. are being sent to Myanmar.

The three private organizations which we already sent a cash donation are planning to make arrangement for the followings:

Cyclone Funds Sent to Cyclone-hit Areas in Myanmar

May 12, 2008

On 12th of May 2008, while medicine and other aid supplies are being prepared to send to Myanmar, some of the cyclone fund are transferred to welfare organizations and aid groups who are really helping Myanmar cyclone victims. The amount of money transferred can be seen in the following list. The Yun Monastery and Tha Yet Taw Monastery are the monasteries where cyclone victims are staying for the moment. Yay Bay Kae Sae Yay Group (cyclone aid group) are helping people in Labutta Township, one of the most heavily damaged area during Cyclone Nargis. Myint Myat Alin Dama Darna Group is distributing aid supplies in Pathein Township, Irrawady Division.

Prayer Service and Cyclone Relief Fund Raising Event

May 11, 2008

The "Special Prayer Service and Cyclone Relief Fund Raising" event, jointly organized by RIT Alumni Singapore and Myanmar Club Singapore, finished successfully at Toa Payoh Burmese Buddhist Temple in the morning of 11th May 2008. Around 500 people has attended the prayer service. Many people, not only Myanmars, but also Singaporeans and visiting Tourists, contributed and donated for the suffering Myanmar people of cyclone-hit areas.

As of 11th May 2008, the fund raising committee has collected around S$35,000 and will intend to buy medicines and water purification tablets which are needed in disaster areas. The committee will do its best to make sure that the aid supplies reach the hands of those in need.
